NSF Scholarship Program (New Version)

Page For Students Entering the Scholarship Program After May 2004

This scholarship opportunity was made available to CIS majors at Saint Vincent College, thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). It is now past the deadline for students to apply for this scholarship, and the grant project has ended. However, current students who had one of these scholarships at the end of the grant project will now have their scholarships funded by Saint Vincent College as long as they continue to fulfill the requirements. Brief Description

This National Science Foundation grant made new scholarships available to Computing & Information Science majors at Saint Vincent College. The grant provided over $360,000 for this scholarship program. The program was designed to prepare students for the high technology workforce through internship participation, involvement in undergraduate research, tutoring, interaction with mentors from technology fields, etc. Strategies for assessing student learning outcomes in the project included portfolios of students' academic work, internship evaluations, career placements, and alumni surveys.

The following provides a summary of some of the details of who was eligible for this program, etc.
  • Students needed to be able to graduate by spring 2007 to be candidates to receive one of these NSF scholarships through graduation.
  • Students who could not graduate by then but could finish at least 4 semesters by spring 2007 could be candidates to receive 4 or 5 semesters of NSF scholarship support.
  • In addition, Saint Vincent College committed itself to continuing this scholarship aid in some form after the NSF funding ended (summer 2007), provided that the student continued to meet the eligibility requirements.
  • In general, freshmen who entered the college in the fall of 2003, 2004, or 2005 were eligible for these NSF scholarships.
  • Transfer and change of major students who entered at any time up to and including spring 2005 were also eligible.
  • The amount awarded depended upon financial need and could range up to a maximum of $3,125 per academic year.
  • The scholarships were intended to supplement students' other financial aid and were renewable from one academic year to the next, dependent upon students' continuing to meet the eligibility requirements.
Follow the links below to read about the requirements that were used, both those for receiving one of these NSF scholarships in the first place and those for continuing to receive the scholarship. Note that the scholarship awardees participated in program activities designed to help them to succeed and to prepare them for careers in the field.
