Request Special Use of CIS Lab

CIS Department Policy

In most cases students should complete their work during the regularly scheduled hours of the CIS lab. With good time management and preparatory work outside the lab (analysis and design steps, for example) this should work fairly well. See the schedule posted outside the lab for details or the schedule posted on this Web site. Note that this schedule lists a few times when students can stay in the lab, even though the lab is unstaffed, without any need to request permission.

If there is good reason we will consider requests to allow students to work in the lab outside of normal hours. This might be needed by students who have jobs with demanding schedules, for example. To submit such a request, complete the form below and click the submit button to have your request emailed. One factor in the granting of a request is whether or not a faculty member or CIS lab worker is available to open the lab at the requested time. Keys to the lab will only be given to CIS lab workers, and are only for use at the scheduled work times. Another important factor in granting a request is whether or not lab maintenance has already been scheduled to be done at the time requested.

It is expected that the usual lab rules will be honored, such as not bringing food and drink into the lab, and that the lab will be kept clean and in good order. CIS lab workers who wish to use the lab outside of regular hours are also asked to submit their requests using the form below, just as for any other student, though a quick use of the lab to check something for 5 minutes before going to class isn't worth sending a request. In such as case just use the lab if it appears to be free.

Requesting to Use the Lab at a Special Time

Fill out the form below if you wish to request the use of the CIS lab at a time outside of the normal hours. The sooner you ask, the more likely it is that your request can be honored. Once the form is filled out, click on the Submit button. Expect a reply via email in about a day's time. You can call Br. David at 2416 if you would prefer that method instead of this form.
