Privacy PolicyOld Email-Based Mentoring ProgramFor Students Interested in Information Technology, ComputersThis was the privacy policy for the mentoring program provided under our 2000 - 2002 ITWD grant project. Email-based mentoring was provided to encourage students to consider an information technology or other computer-related career. The following gives that policy in its original language. The information supplied by a student on the form for requesting an email-based mentor is stored on the CIS Department server at St. Vincent College. This copy of the data is only available to Br. David Carlson, the CIS department chairperson and project director, and to his assistants who help to run the server and the grant project. The only outside person to whom this data is given is the student's mentor. Note, of course, that this data, when emailed to the mentor may be stored on the computer(s) used to provide the mentor's email. Thus, this data may be accessible to those who run those computers. This data, and any email messages sent between the mentor and student, are not guaranteed to be confidential, as there are ways for hackers to intercept email messages. Of course, this mentoring service is not intented to be used for highly confidential correspondence in the first place! As part of the grant project, a report will occasionally be made to the state of Pennsylvania as to the number and type of students taking part in the email-based mentoring program. Individual names and email addresses will not be included in these reports.
During 2000 - 2002 this project was supported in part by funds from the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania's Link-to-Learn Project. |
