Computing Day 2006


  • Computing Day 2006 was held on Friday, March 10, 2006, from 8:30 to 10:30 am.
  • About 65 to 70 students from area schools, grades 6 through 12, attended.
  • This program was designed to introduce students to various areas of computing and to encourage students to consider a possible career in this field.
  • The program was as follows:
    • A Computer Crime Scene Investigation, Br. David Carlson, CIS Dept Chairperson
    • Graphics and Animation in Visual Basic, Ms. Colleen Carr, CIS Dept Assistant Professor
    • Computers and Biology: Like Oil & Water?, Dr. Michael Sierk, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics)
    • IT Positions - What is Being Off-shored and What Skills are Still Here, by Dane Swartz of Breakaway Technologies
  • Computing Day 2006 was presented by the Computing & Information Science Department at Saint Vincent College.
During 2002 - 2006, Computing Day was organized in part as an outreach program in conjunction with a scholarship program supported by the National Science Foundation's Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarships program under grant DUE-0122934.
