Computing Day 2003

- Computing Day 2003 was held on Monday, February 24, 2003,
from 8:30 to 10:30 am. About 60 students attended.
- The location was the Science Center at Saint Vincent College as in previous years.
- This program was designed to introduce students to various areas of computing and to encourage
students to consider a possible career in this field.
- Students in grades 7 through 12 from the following schools attended this event:
- Greater Latrobe School District
- Holy Trinity School, Ligonier
- Ligonier Valley School District
- Greensburg Central Catholic High School
- Christ the Divine Teacher School
- The program included the following small group sessions:
- Colleen Carr, Assistant Professor, hands-on session using Visual Basic.
- Dr. Cynthia Martincic, Assistant Professor,
presentation on Applications of Artificial Intelligence Techniques.
- Br. David Carlson, Associate Professor and Chairperson,
demo on computer security that shows how hackers can attack your computer.
- Br. Boniface Hicks, Lecturer, careers in computing.
- Computing Day 2003 was presented by the
Computing & Information Science Department
at Saint Vincent College.

During 2002 - 2006, Computing Day was organized in part as an outreach program in conjunction with
a scholarship program supported by the National Science Foundation's
Computer Science,
Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarships program under grant DUE-0122934.
