About Computing Career Day
- Last year's Computing Day was held at Saint Vincent College
on February 26, 2001.
- About 80 students in grades 8 through 12 attended. These students
were from the following partner schools:
- Derry Area School District
- Greater Latrobe School District
- Ligonier Valley School District
- Christ the Divine Teacher School
- Attendees learned about the many opportunities in this growing field.
- The presenters talked with students about why women often do not
consider this field and thus miss the chance for a great career in a
field where they very well might have the needed skills.
- The need for teamwork and social skills to complement one's
technical skills was emphasized.
- A panel discussion, software demos, and small group sessions were carried
out by Saint Vincent College faculty members Colleen Carr and Br. David
Carlson, as well as industry representatives from
Marconi Communications
and Timken Latrobe Steel.

- Computing Day was organized by Saint Vincent's
Computing & Information Science Department as part of their
Link-to-Learn Grant Project.
