CIS Major Requirements as of Summer 2005


The CIS major requirements are listed separately below for the Computer Science Concentration and the Information Technology Concentration. These requirements apply to all CIS majors who entered on or after summer 2005. The one change from the 2002 requirements for the major is that the CS 359 project course got split into CS 357 (1 credit) and CS 358 (2 credits).

Computer Science (CS) Concentration


A minor in another field is recommended, especially in mathematics or physics. A statistics course is recommended. Also available is a complete 2005 advising sheet for the CS concentration , including the Saint Vincent College Core Requirements.

CIS Core Courses (33 credits)

CIS Electives (12 credits)


Any CIS department courses numbered 200 or above may be included. One approved computer course from another department may be included, subject to the approval of the CIS department chairperson.

CIS Mathematics Requirement

  • MA 111, 112 - Calculus I and II or
  • MA 109, 110 - Calculus I and II

Information Technology (IT) Concentration


A minor in another field is recommended, especially in business or economics. A statistics course is recommended as are industry certifications. Also available is a complete 2005 advising sheet for the IT concentration , including the Saint Vincent College Core Requirements.

Any CIS department courses numbered 200 or above may be included. One approved computer course from another department may be included, subject to the approval of the CIS department chairperson.
